Lovin' former CreCommers

First day back at school for CreCommers. Great to see grads Adam Toy and Andrea Collins (Curve) volunteering for a bit on 92.9 KICK FM!

The first day back at college after a rejuvenating summer is always exciting. Sure, the night before everybody feels like they don't want to return, but once they're here..........it's not that bad. Really.

This morning in orientation I looked out at the sea of faces - some smiling, some frowning and some yawning........and wondered if they have any idea right now about how much they're going to learn this year and how fortunate and grateful they're going to feel one year from now when they've graduated and moved on to their first job in their chosen industry.

The first couple of days can be a little overwhelming........schedules, outlines, demands..........but the dust will settle, the routine will begin and most will cope. And a year from now, as grads head off to work they'll think fondly of their time in CreComm.

Is Radio Irrelevant?

An article in The Globe and Mail suggests that artists are trying to get their music played on TV shows as opposed to radio. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/television/as-heard-on-tv/article1552911/

Think about it. How did you feel when you heard Snow Patrol running under an end montage of Grey's Anatomy? Did the visuals make you like the tune that much more? Did you quickly Google to find out what the song was? Then did you buy it from itunes....and download it to your ipod?

Are we constantly searching for new music? Do we need to be told how to feel about it?

Music is a like a photo album in our imagination. As soon as we hear a song, whether we liked it or not, it takes us to the place we were when we heard that tune a lot.

I think we do constantly search for music that is meaningful to us. And there are a number of great sources: among them, TV and radio.

There go my dreams of having a 3D TV

I'm fascinated with the idea of having a 3D TV in my home, but just as I was thinking about how amazing it would be to catch the Masters as if I were really there, I get news today that Samsung is warning us about the dangers of the new technology! the company says there may be side-effects experienced by expectant women, the elderly, children, and people with grave medical conditions. Apparently people, who suffer from insomnia or who have been consuming alcohol, have been recommended to avoid viewing 3D television.......yikes........I'm afraid I'm not a candidate!

What I like most about American Idol

I think the greatest thing about American Idol is that often the contestants do a slightly modified version of older songs.........tunes that haven't gotten airplay for years on traditional radio. The version of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Long As I Can See The Light by Crystal Bowersox was amazing.....the same goes for Casey James' version of Jealous Guy, a John Lennon song......The thing that has surprised me the most is that often I'm finding I prefer the newer versions!

If you can't make it good, at least make it look good.

The Media Production Majors did their first remote Monday in the atrium of Red River College.
